Open term (permanent) full time pedometrician position opening at Manaaki Whenua (New Zealand)

The person appointed to the role will contribute to research and consultancy programmes that investigate soil and landscape mapping, modelling and information management to support and verify sustainable and wise use of natural assets, contributing to solutions for climate adaptation and mitigation.

This position is permanent full time, reports to the Capability Leader, Land Use and Ecosystems Team, and is based at our Palmerston North site.

You will possess a PhD in soil science with expertise in pedometrics, geostatistics, or spatial modelling of soil properties or related discipline. You will demonstrate experience and knowledge of pedology, digital soil mapping, farm systems, soil-landscape relationships, and soil carbon. You will have expertise in spatial and integrative modelling, including ecosystem services upscaling and mapping, and be able to work with large databases. Competence and autonomy in the use, including scripting/programming, of a range of modelling tools – for example SQL, Python, R, C/C++, GIS tools (Arcgis and/or OSGeo open-source stack) is required. Experience in preparing proposals and attracting research funding would be advantageous. You can demonstrate some engagement with end-user expectations and needs. You will be a well-organized, flexible, pragmatic, and reliable individual who enjoys working as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team.

The salary for this role ranges from $87,300 to $97,033 depending on work experience.
