ASA-CSSA-SSSA Meeting – Digital Soil Mapping

Dear all

It’s time to think about submitting abstracts for the 2012 Annual ASA-CSSA-SSSA Meeting in Cincinnati, OH, Oct. 21-24, 2012

To Submit an Abstract, please go to: http://scisoc.confex.com/scisoc/2012am/index.html

The DSM Workgroup is sponsoring/co-sponsoring the following sessions / symposia:

Symposia: Global Soil Mapping in a Changing World (Oral and Poster)

Sponsor: ASA Global Digital Soil Map Community

Co-sponsored by: Digital Soil Mapping Workgroup (Div. S5) SSSA; Div. S5 Pedology (SSSA); and Field Diagnosis for Smallholder Agriculture Community (ASA)

Globally ecosystems have been undergoing profound and accelerated change that imposes threats to the functioning and sustainability of agricultural production and natural systems. To assess the distribution, patterns and evolution of soil properties at a global scale under imposed pressures of land use/biome, management and global climate change poses new challenges. Digital soil maps, models, and approaches allow synthesizing our knowledge in support of global soil mapping in a changing world. Concerted efforts are needed to link agronomic and pedogenic perspectives to assess soils at a global scale.

Session: New Challenges to Digital Soil Mapping (Oral and Poster)

Sponsor: SSSA Div. S5 and Digital Soil Mapping Workgroup (Div. S5)

This session calls for paper that focus on (i) digital assessment of soil properties using ancillary environmental data; (ii) digital soil mapping and modeling across spatial and temporal scales; (iii) spectral-informed digital soil models; (iv) novel and creative methods to advance digital soil mapping and modeling; and (v) linkages between digital soil mapping and agronomic and environmental applications.

Co-organizers: Sabine Grunwald and Jonathan Hempel.
